LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Anita E. Saunders upon the occasion of
her retirement after more than 44 distinguished years as an educator on
March 24, 2015
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in the young
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Anita E. Saunders upon the occasion of her retirement after more than 44
distinguished years as an educator, to be celebrated on Tuesday, March
24, 2015, at Leonard's Palazzo, Great Neck, New York; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Anita E. Saunders provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Anita E. Saunders began her career as an instructor teaching
6th grade in Community School District 26, in Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her stellar career, Anita E. Saunders held several
titles in all levels, including Staff Developer, Coordinator, Grant
Writer, Adjunct Professor, National/International Presenter, Director of
Funded Programs, District Director of Instruction and Professional
Development, Deputy Superintendent, and Superintendent, the esteemed
position from which she will officially retire; and
WHEREAS, Anita E. Saunders' love of learning, high standards, and
expectations, work ethic, energy and innovative thinking have been
evidenced in every one of these positions; and
WHEREAS, For her tireless dedication to her students and her school,
Anita E. Saunders has been the recipient of numerous awards and acco-
lades, including the NYC Supervisor/Administrator of the Year, District
26, the Bayside Hills Civic Association's William Caulfield Award, the
Korean American Association of Greater New York's Woman of the Year
Award, and the Women in Leadership Award from the Center for the Women
of New York (CWNY), as well as recognition from both the Asian American
Coalition for Education and the Educational Leadership-Jewish Teachers
Community Chest Fund; and
WHEREAS, Anita E. Saunders' quest for excellence is well-known; she
attributes much of her success to the dedicated ethical team of educa-
tors, supportive friends, caring and involved parents, and wonderful,
enthusiastic children; and
WHEREAS, Anita E. Saunders has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of New York City, as well as on the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Anita E. Saunders upon the occasion of her retirement as an
educator after more than 44 years of dedicated service in education, and
to wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anita E. Saunders.
