LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Kareene Lloyd and Carmen Rodriguez in
recognition of their heroic actions in safely evacuating residents of
The Arc of Westchester who were in danger from flames engulfing the
house next door

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take prompt and appro-
priate action in emergency situations; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Kareene
Lloyd and Carmen Rodriguez in recognition of their heroic actions in
safely evacuating residents of The Arc of Westchester who live at 2
Inverness Road, Yonkers, New York, who were in danger from flames
engulfing the house next door; and
WHEREAS, On Thursday night, January 1, 2015, a three-alarm fire broke
out at a vacant Yonkers home adjacent to the home at 2 Inverness Road;
by 2:30 a.m. on Friday, January 2nd, the neighbors and residents of The
Arc of Westchester had to be evacuated; and
WHEREAS, Responding without hesitation, or concern for their own
welfare, two of the Arc's employees, Kareene Lloyd and Carmen Rodriguez,
carefully removed all eight residents and brought them to safety; and
WHEREAS, While in the course of performing their job duties, Kareene
Lloyd and Carmen Rodriguez helped those who trusted them the most by
remaining calm under pressure, exercising great judgment and selfless
commitment to the disaabled adults under their care, and for their
proficiency during a traumatic experience; fortunately, the group home
suffered minimal damage and most importantly, no one was injured; and
WHEREAS, Justly recognized as heroines, Kareene Lloyd and Carmen
Rodriguez richly merit the admiration of this Legislative Body and their
community for their consummate courage and bravery; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kareene Lloyd and Carmen Rodriguez in recognition of their hero-
ic actions in safely evacuating residents of 2 Inverness Road in a house
operated by The Arc of Westchester who were in danger from flames
engulfing the house next door; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kareene Lloyd and Carmen Rodriguez.
