LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Henry Pelayo, Jr. for his 40 years of
service to the Castle Hill Little League
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Henry Pelayo, Jr. has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Henry
Pelayo, Jr. for his 40 years of service to the Castle Hill Little League
to be celebrated at its 60th Anniversary celebration on Friday, March
18, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Henry Pelayo, Jr. was born on May 3, 1947 in the neighborhood
of Spanish Harlem in New York City; after moving with his family to the
Bronx, he attended Catholic school and graduated from Morris High
School; he also received a full paid tuition scholarship to New York
University (NYU); and
WHEREAS, In 1964, Henry Pelayo, Jr. proudly joined the United States
Naval Reserve at the age of seventeen; upon the completion of his
service, he attended NYU, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in
Education in 1972; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Henry Pelayo, Jr. worked as a
History teacher at Junior High 13 in Spanish Harlem from 1972 to 1978;
and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to serving others in his community, Henry Pelayo,
Jr. joined the New York City Police Department (NYPD) where he ably
served in several different units until his retirement in 1997; and
WHEREAS, While serving with the NYPD, Henry Pelayo, Jr. was assigned
to Stevenson High School where he combined his educational experience
with his desire to help young men and women make the right choices in
life; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Henry Pelayo, Jr. further displayed his passion for
helping today's youth by becoming a volunteer with the Castle Hill
Little League; over the years, he has served in numerous vital roles,
including Coach, Manager, Senior Commissioner, and President; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious 17-year tenure as President, Henry
Pelayo, Jr.'s inspired leadership has helped increase attendance each
year and created numerous success stories at the Castle Hill Little
League; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable leader oversaw the opening of a
new, state-of-the-art baseball field, and helped the organization gain
acknowledgement as one of the best little leagues city-wide; and
WHEREAS, Today, Henry Pelayo, Jr. is known for his unyielding commit-
ment to bringing the best possible services to the over 500 children and
their families in the Castle Hill Little League; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous honors, Henry Pelayo, Jr. was named
a 2005 Outstanding Leader in the Community by the Astor Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Henry Pelayo, Jr. has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, his four children,
and nine grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Henry Pelayo, Jr. for his 40 years of service to the Castle Hill
Little League; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Henry Pelayo, Jr.
