LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION celebrating the life and many accomplishments of
Peter S. Glassman, Esq., skilled mediator, loving family man, and
devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Peter Glassman, a preeminent citizen whose
distinguished public service and caring commitment will long serve as a
standard to which others might aspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and recog-
nize individuals who made significant contributions to the human and
civil rights of New York State, and therefore it is fitting and appro-
priate to recognize the life and work of Peter Glassman; and
WHEREAS, Peter S. Glassman of Round Lake, New York, died on Wednesday,
January 13, 2016, at the age of 59; and
WHEREAS, Born on November 1, 1956, to Arnold and Anita Glassman, Peter
S. Glassman was raised in Saratoga Springs, New York, where he spent a
great deal of his time at local establishments such as East Side Rec,
the YMCA, Caffe Lena and Saratoga Performing Arts Center, cultivating
his lifelong love of athletics and music; and
WHEREAS, Peter S. Glassman earned his bachelor's degree from Cornell
University; he then went on to obtain his Juris Doctor with honors from
Howard University; after receiving his law degree, he was admitted to
the New York State Bar; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Peter S. Glassman successfully completed numer-
ous mediation training courses including Basic Mediation Training,
Divorce Mediation Training, Transformative Mediation Training, Conflict
and Collaboration in Environmental and Community Decision-making,
Advanced Mediation Training, Land Use/Multi-Party Mediation and Facili-
tation Training; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Peter S. Glassman was certified as a Basic Medi-
ation Trainer, and a New York State Unified Court System State Mediator;
he also participated in a Certificate Program in Public Participation;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career, Peter S. Glassman was
dedicated to causes of social justice throughout his life, and directed
his career to working for organizations which upheld his ideals; his
kind and gentle temperament aligned naturally with his recognition of
purpose as a peacemaker which led him to the work of mediation, civil
engagement and facilitation; and
WHEREAS, Peter S. Glassman dedicated his time and energy to several
worthy organizations such as Catholic Charities, Mediation Matters and
the New York State Dispute Resolution Association; and
WHEREAS, For 13 years, Peter S. Glassman held the esteemed position of
Executive Director of Mediation Matters, Albany, New York; in this
capacity, he was in charge of all facets of the operations of the New
York State funded, non-profit, dispute resolution center which special-
ized in mediation, facilitation and arbitration; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, Peter S. Glassman formed a private consulting prac-
tice specializing in mediation, conflict management, group facilitation,
organizational change management and customized training; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his work with his firm, Peter S. Glassman,
LLC, this remarkable man served as Executive Director for Community
Mediation Center of Rhode Island, a position he held until his passing;
in this role, he was in charge of operations of the non-profit Community
Dispute Resolution Center which covered the entire state of Rhode
Island; and
WHEREAS, From 2013-2015, Peter S. Glassman held the title of Statewide
Director of the New York State Agricultural Mediation Program (NYSAMP),
which provides opportunities for people in the agricultural community to
communicate clearly, negotiate effectively, and to find fair and work-
able solutions; and
WHEREAS, For two years, Peter S. Glassman was responsible for program
administration, development and outreach including case management,
training mediators, coordinating and training local community mediation
center staff, preparing marketing materials, building partnerships with
agricultural agencies providing service to agricultural producers,
producing press releases, brochures, annual reports, and other materi-
als; meeting with state legislators and other governmental officials,
and speaking at engagements and workshops; and
WHEREAS, A brilliant man and arbitrator, Peter S. Glassman taught
upper level undergraduate courses in Conflict Resolution and Mediation
at Siena College, Skidmore College, and the Albany Law School where he
brought to fruition a Mediation Clinic; throughout the years, he trained
and inspired hundreds of mediators across the state, many of whom were
touched by his gifts and graced by his amazing sense of humor; and
WHEREAS, A man of many interests and passions, Peter S. Glassman
enjoyed playing both tennis and basketball, and liked to ride bikes; he
was an ardent animal lover, a voracious reader, and appreciated the
beautiful beaches of St. John, Virgin Islands, and Plum Island, Massa-
chusetts; and
WHEREAS, Peter S. Glassman is survived by his beloved wife of 33
years, Elyn Zimmerman; two cherished children, Morgan and Zena Zimmer-
glass; his mother, Anita; his two brothers, Darshan (Darshan) and Jaga-
nath (Jaga); and one sister, Eva (Lee) Nagel; as well as numerous niec-
es, nephews, colleagues, sports buddies and friends; and
WHEREAS, Peter S. Glassman's name will forever be synonymous with
character, dignity, intellect, depth, and humor, qualities evident to
his family and to all those who were fortunate enough to have known him;
he will be deeply missed; and
WHEREAS, In appreciation of his life of commitment, dedication and
substantial contribution, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
inscribe upon its records this tribute to the memory of Peter S. Glass-
man that future generations may know and appreciate his admirable char-
acter, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and esteem in which he
was held; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and many accomplishments of Peter S. Glassman, Esq.,

ty; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Peter S. Glassman, Esq.
