LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the Steuben
Old Home Days from August 27-28, 2016
WHEREAS, Old Home Days brings friends, neighbors, family, and visitors
together with a true community spirit; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize and
support events of significance which contribute to the entertainment and
vitality of the communities they serve and which exemplify the history
and development of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 90th Anniversary of the Steuben Old Home Days in Steuben, New
York; this auspicious milestone will be recognized on Saturday, August
27 through Sunday, August 28, 2016, and will celebrate the history,
traditions and legacy of this renowned occasion; and
WHEREAS, Historically held on the fourth Saturday and Sunday in
August, Steuben Old Home Days is comprised of a myriad of events includ-
ing good food, an auction, and entertaining bands, all of which embody
the spirit and the cherished ideals and values of this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Ninety years ago, the Women's group of the Steuben United
Methodist Church started the Steuben Old Home Days to finance the main-
tenance costs of the Steuben Corners Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Steuben Old Home Days assisted numerous
other cemetery associations; today, the funds support Steuben Corners
Cemetery, Steuben Valley Cemetery, Carmichael Hill Cemetery and the
Sixty Cemetery as well as the Steuben United Methodists Women's Group;
and
WHEREAS, Today, under the luminous direction of its President, Mark
Williams, the Steuben Old Home Days continues to celebrate the culture,
produce, wealth, and religious history of the Steuben area with two days
of homecoming, exchange of goods, contests and awards, a banquet, and
camaraderie; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those organizations that have brought entertainment and cultural
enrichment to the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of the Steuben Old Home Day's rich legacy and
enduring contribution to the entertainment and heritage of the State of
New York, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to join in the cele-
bration to ensure that present and future generations may come to appre-
ciate the unique significance which its history plays in the progression
of our State and Nation's evolution; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Steuben Old Home Days; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mark Williams, President, Steuben Old Home Days Committee.
