LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Jack
Lisi Youth Award Program

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
acknowledge certain exemplary organizations which provide our communi-
ties with services and support for younger generations, and through
their work have become beacons of compassion and devotion within the
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of the Jack Lisi Youth Award Program; and
WHEREAS, The Jack Lisi Youth Award Program was established in 1991,
shortly after the death of Jack Lisi, former Steuben County Sheriff; its
mission is to continue Sheriff Lisi's legacy of caring and assisting
young adults in their future successes; and
WHEREAS, From the program's inception, the founders, including Charlie
Babcock, Robert Cole and Sheriff Jerry Dartt, formed a leadership
committee under the auspices of the Steuben County Youth Bureau and
Steuben County RSVP Program; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, this original steering committee became the Board of
Directors and the Jack Lisi Youth Award was officially incorporated as a
legal non-profit organization; and
WHEREAS, Locally, fundraising began in the early 1990s with a mail
campaign, later followed by a Golf Tournament which was held until 2007;
the Annual Fall Reception started shortly thereafter, and continues to
be a success; and
WHEREAS, All mail campaign and general donation funds are designated
for the Annual Award Winners; the funds raised during the past Golf
Tournaments and current Annual Fall Reception are used for overhead
expenses such as paper, printing, banquet costs for the award winners
and their guests, insurance, professional bookkeeping services, postage,
advertising and other expenses; and
WHEREAS, There are no personnel or payroll costs; governance and
numerous tasks are accomplished by about 25 dedicated volunteers; and
WHEREAS, A Trust Fund was established in the early 1990s for the Jack
Lisi Award Program; the Board of Directors, along with a financial
manager, expertly ensure that the investment fund grows and remains
secure; and
WHEREAS, Since 1992, 198 worthy young adults have been recipients of
the Jack Lisi Youth Award; these deserving young adults are assisted
toward their goals with items such as clothing, tools, college tuition,
books as well as bus tickets; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those vital organizations which provide services for the betterment
of the residents of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Jack Lisi Youth Award Program;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Jack Lisi Youth Award Program.
