LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Brooklyn Asian Civilian Observa-
tion Patrol for their noble commitment to serving their community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize
those civilian groups which volunteer their time for the welfare of
their communities, acting in cooperation with law enforcement personnel
in the interest of maintaining public safety; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Brooklyn Asian Civilian Observation Patrol for their noble commit-
ment to serving their community; and
WHEREAS, Brooklyn Asian Civilian Observation Patrol (BACOP), founded
on January 29, 2014, is a neighborhood watch program in partnership with
the New York Police Department; its mission is to work with the police
department to promote neighborhood safety, and serve as a bridge between
the police department and the Chinese immigrant community; and
WHEREAS, Currently, BACOP consists of 50 active members, three patrol
cars and a 4x4 patrol vehicle; they patrol between Sunset Park and
Borough Park seven days a week, from 10pm until 4am; and
WHEREAS, BACOP's members have volunteered countless hours of their
time and energies to make their community a safer and stronger place to
live and raise a family; this vital organization not only provides
language translation for police officers which helps to reduce crime,
but also assists the police department to secure and extend the safety
net for the local community; and
WHEREAS, BACOP's members provide immediate assistance to police offi-
cers and act as a liaison between the police officers and the community,
and by doing so, they successfully tighten the relationship between law
enforcement agencies and the immigrants residing in Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, The success of the BACOP is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its volunteers, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, Public order and civility on the streets of our communities
is certainly advanced by the civic-mindedness of community groups, such
as the Brooklyn Asian Civilian Observation Patrol, that organize effec-
tive and diligent neighborhood crime watches; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brooklyn Asian Civilian Observation Patrol for their noble
commitment to serving their community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Brooklyn Asian Civilian Observation Patrol.
