LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Skaneateles Girls U19 Hockey
Team upon the occasion of winning the 2016 New York State Hockey Associ-
ation Tier II U19 Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive team sports can be
achieved only through rigorous training, mental and physical discipline,
and a dedicated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
talented young individuals within our midst, who by achieving outstand-
ing success in athletic competitions, have inspired and brought great
pride to their entire community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic contests enhance the moral and physical development
of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and developing a sense
of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Skaneateles Girls U19 Hockey Team (Skaneateles U19 Lady Lakers)
upon the occasion of winning the 2016 New York State Hockey Association
Tier II U19 Championship on March 20, 2016, in Amherst, New York; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Hockey Association Tier II Tournament
began with the Skaneateles U19 Lady Lakers earning a hard fought 1-0
victory over the Rochester Grizzlies in Game No. 1; and
WHEREAS, In Game No. 2 of the Tournament, the Skaneateles U19 Lady
Lakers suffered a 4-0 defeat by the Massena/St. Lawrence Team, but
rallied back with hard work and determination in Game No. 3 to secure a
13-0 victory over the Brewster Lady Bulldogs; and
WHEREAS, The Skaneateles U19 Lady Lakers' record of 2-1 subsequently
qualified the team for the Final Four hockey match, where the team beat
the defending champion, Cazenovia, with a nail biting score of 3-2; and
WHEREAS, In the final championship game of the New York State Hockey
Association Tier II Tournament, the Skaneateles U19 Lady Lakers found
themselves face to face again with the same Massena/St. Lawrence Team
that previously beat them at the beginning of the tournament; this time,
however, the Skaneateles U19 Lady Lakers withstood each and every rush
by the opponent and fought tough to produce an impressive 3-0 State
Championship victory; and
WHEREAS, The Skaneateles U19 Lady Lakers made history by becoming the
first team in the program to advance to the Nationals, which took place
from March 31st to April 4th in Burlington, Vermont; and
WHEREAS, No team can succeed without outstanding talent throughout its
entire roster, as was the case for the Skaneateles U19 Lady Lakers whose
members included: Melissa Amory; Devin Baylor; Hannah Croteau, Whitney
Daino, Melinda Fisher, Sophie Goris, Johna Halko, Maryn Kerr, Mallory
Kovacs, Abigail Kuhns, Carley Mills, Kyleigh Prance, Christina Ravessi,
Tara Riley, Grace Schnorr and Mariah Smola; and
WHEREAS, Throughout their entire season, members of the Skaneateles
U19 Lady Lakers demonstrated strong play, impressive effort and excel-
lent sportsmanship to finish out a successful season and bring great
pride to their community; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by the Skaneateles U19 Lady
Lakers team is in great part due to the efforts of their coaches, Head
Coach Beau Baylor and Assistant Coaches Jim Mills, Pat McHale and Pete
Kuhns, who are skilled mentors respected for their ability to develop
potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, These coaches did a superb job in guiding, molding and
inspiring members of the Skaneateles U19 Lady Lakers toward their goals;
and
WHEREAS, Athletically, the dedicated members of the Skaneateles U19
Lady Lakers proved to be a terrific combination of talent, who were
consistently supported by their loyal family and friends within the
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Skaneateles Girls U19 Hockey Team upon the occasion of
winning the 2016 New York State Hockey Association Tier II U19 Champion-
ship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to each member of the Skaneateles Girls U19 Hockey Team; Head
Coach Beau Baylor; and Assistant Coaches Jim Mills, Pat McHale and Pete
Kuhns.
