LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring The Jewish War Veterans (JWV) of the
United States Post No. 105 upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the Circle of Humanity Award by Temple Israel on May 19,
2016

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those organizations within our midst who have
made significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to recognize for
their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and
publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic
humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor The Jewish War
Veterans (JWV) of the United States Post No. 105 upon the occasion of
its designation as recipient of the Circle of Humanity Award by Temple
Israel on Thursday, May 19, 2016, in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, The establishment of this unique award was inspired by the
passion and enthusiasm of a movement in the Capital District to embrace
the best of the human spirit in us all; the Circle of Humanity Award
represents our recognition of those who demonstrate what can be accom-
plished within each person's heart and soul; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is given to those who have shown cour-
age and initiative to reach out, together, to create an atmosphere that
is at once positive, exciting and contagious, truly devoting themselves
to making a positive difference in the local community and beyond; and
WHEREAS, The Jewish War Veterans (JWV) of the United States Post No.
105 of Albany, New York has more than 80 years of service to the Capital
Region's Jewish Community and the cause of veterans' nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Originally chartered in February 1935, The Jewish War Veter-
ans of the United States Post's 21 charter members ultimately led to the
formation of the Capital Region District Council along with posts from
Schenectady, Troy, Utica, and Glens Falls; Post No. 36 in Saratoga
Springs joined the council in 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Jewish War Veterans of the United States Post No. 105
includes a diverse group of Jewish veterans of World War II, Korean War,
Vietnam War, Cold War, Gulf War, the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization supports the efforts of the national
organization to combat bigotry and foster citizenship and patriotism;
post veterans support their fellow comrades and families along with
ensuring honors and care for the gravesites of our fallen; and
WHEREAS, The Jewish War Veterans of the United States Post No. 105 is
a volunteer partner with the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, to
assist with veterans' causes and their care and is the charter organiza-
tion for the annual Four Chaplains Brotherhood Award, first presented in
1966; and
WHEREAS, The JWV is the oldest veterans organization in the country
and is a sponsor of the National Museum of American Jewish Military
History in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor The Jewish War Veterans (JWV) of the United States Post No. 105
upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the Circle of
Humanity Award by Temple Israel on May 19, 2016; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Jewish War Veterans (JWV) of the United States Post No.
105, Albany, New York.
