LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump upon
the occasion of celebrating its 20th Annual Jump in support of children,
individuals, and organizations in need on February 21, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions, individuals, and events which devote themselves to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump upon the occasion of celebrating its
20th Annual Jump in support of children, individuals, and organizations
in need on Saturday, February 21, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump was organized in 1996 by
Jamie and Brenda Waters; 11 brave souls jumped into the freezing waters
of Goodyear Lake outside of Portlandville, New York, in an effort to
raise funds for families facing health crises; and
WHEREAS, Each year the event's popularity grows, and this year, more
than 400 jumpers dressed as superheroes are expected to take the frigid
annual plunge; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its 20-year history, proceeds from the Goodyear
Lake Polar Bear Jump have been donated to numerous worthy organizations
including the Catskill Area Hospice, the Milford Fire Department, and
the Portlandville Methodist Church, as well as approximately 60 benefi-
ciaries; this year's event will benefit 10 children as well as 10 commu-
nity organizations; and
WHEREAS, Along with the jump, a Chinese auction was held at the
Milford Central School, and a penny challenge will be initiated at
surrounding schools; these efforts are a great way to raise awareness
amongst children who are too young to jump; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to applaud all those who
will enjoy a quick and invigorating jump and the hundreds of onlookers
and cheerleaders for their enthusiasm, participation and generosity
which will benefit so many area children and worthy organizations; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump upon the occasion of celebrat-
ing its 20th Annual Jump in support of children, individuals, and organ-
izations in need on February 21, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jamie and Brenda Waters, Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump.
