LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rod Sutton upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Guilford Citizen of the Year Award on
May 30, 2016
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rod Sutton
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Guilford Citi-
zen of the Year Award, to be celebrated on May 30, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Rod Sutton graduated from Fairfax High School in Fairfax,
Virginia; he went on to attend both SUNY Morrisville and SUNY Oswego,
earning a permanent New York State teacher's certification in Visual
Communications; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, Rod Sutton began his illustrious career teaching
Visual Communications at DCMO BOCES; 10 years later, he became their
Coordinator of Instructional Technology, a position from which he
retired in November of 2012; and
WHEREAS, Rod Sutton has been a member of both the Guilford Fire
Department and Emergency Squad since February of 2001; throughout his
tenure with the Department, he has held the position of Captain and was
named Firefighter of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Rod Sutton has served on numerous committees,
including FEMA grant writing to obtain essential fire gear, and current-
ly, the Guilford Fire Department Building Committee; as a member of the
Guilford Emergency Squad, he has held the positions of Treasurer and
Lieutenant, and currently serves as Squad Captain; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, Rod Sutton is a member of both
the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board and the Chenango County
Bureau of Fire and Emergency Medical Services; he is also an Emergency
Medical Services Instructor for Chenango County; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to Rotary, Rod
Sutton has served as both a counselor and director of the Rotary Youth
Leadership Association; in addition, he was President of the Upstate
Herpetology Association, a member of the Audubon Society, and a volun-
teer for the Wolf Mountain Nature Society; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Rod Sutton has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rod Sutton upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Guilford Citizen of the Year Award on May 30, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rod Sutton.
