LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the unveiling of the new bullpen
and batting cage at the Christian Brothers Academy baseball field in
honor of CBA Varsity baseball pitcher Jack Sheridan
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
outstanding student athletes among our midst who have inspired and
brought great pride to their schools and communities throughout the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to hereby
commemorate the unveiling of the new indoor baseball bullpen and batting
cage at Christian Brothers Academy of Syracuse in the honor of CBA
Varsity Baseball pitcher Jack Sheridan; and
WHEREAS, The unveiling will take place on May 15, 2016, during an
official ceremony to dedicate CBA's renovated baseball field; and
WHEREAS, Jack Sheridan, a high school junior and standout baseball
pitcher at Christian Brothers Academy, was diagnosed with leukemia in
2014; and
WHEREAS, While battling cancer, Jack Sheridan was granted a request
from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York, and Jack's selfless
wish was for a renovated baseball field at Christian Brothers Academy;
and
WHEREAS, In a unique partnership between the Make-A-Wish Foundation
and the Christian Brothers Academy family of graduates, parents and
supporters, Jack Sheridan's wish was granted as part of CBA's overall
baseball renovation project; and
WHEREAS, The upgrades that are being constructed in Jack Sheridan's
honor include brand new dugouts, a state-of-the-art building with
enhanced lighting to be used as a bullpen and batting cage, as well as a
new backstop; and
WHEREAS, Now in recovery, Jack Sheridan returned to the mound for the
Christian Brothers Academy baseball home opener against Chittenango High
School on April 19, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Even though he had not pitched a game in more than 600 days,
Jack Sheridan had an impressive performance during the home opener,
throwing his first pitch right down the middle for Strike One; and
WHEREAS, Jack Sheridan is a courageous young man, who has demonstrated
great strength and faith in the face of cancer, while inspiring his
friends and family and the many community members around him; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble strengths and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is hereby pleased to express its admi-
ration for Jack Sheridan and to wish him the best in all of his future
endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the unveiling of the new indoor bullpen and batting cage at
Christian Brothers Academy on May 15, 2016, in the honor of CBA Varsity
Baseball pitcher Jack Sheridan; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jack Sheridan.
