LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate upon
the occasion of hosting its Ball for the Brave, and paying tribute to
this year's honoree on May 20, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishment clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of the Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate upon the occasion of hosting its Ball
for the Brave, and paying tribute to this year's honoree on Friday, May
20, 2016, at the Emerson Park Pavilion, Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, This year, Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate recognizes Offi-
cer Vincent Carnicelli, of the Auburn Police Department, for his dedi-
cated public service to his community; and
WHEREAS, Since 2001, Vincent Carnicelli has served as a Police Offi-
cer, devoting his life to the preservation of order and the protection
of the citizens of Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career, Vincent Carnicelli has
held numerous positions on the force such as a DARE Officer for several
years at both Herman Avenue and Casey Park Elementary Schools; in this
capacity, he taught students that good decision making skills will help
them lead safe and healthy lives; and
WHEREAS, In addition, for more than eight years, Officer Vincent
Carnicelli and his police dog, Rayn, served on the K-9 unit; Officer
Carnicelli has also worked with Auburn Housing to keep its neighborhoods
crime free, and since September of 2015, he has held the title of School
Resource Officer at Auburn Junior High School; and
WHEREAS, Founded by Father Albert Shamon, Tyburn Academy of Mary Imma-
culate is a private, independent Junior/Senior Catholic High School,
chartered by the New York State Board of Regents; located within the
Rochester diocese and bordering the Syracuse diocese, the school has
served the students in the City of Auburn as well as the entire Finger
Lakes region since 1993; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous guidance of Principal, Louis Massett,
Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate strives to address the whole child,
his or her mind and heart; the challenging curriculum prepares students
for educational and professional pursuits beyond their high school
years; and
WHEREAS, Based on Christian principles, each class begins with a pray-
er, and students, as well as faculty, attempt to keep this spirit with
them as they move through the day; and
WHEREAS, Students, faculty, and parents come together to work, help
and support each other in a Christian community by accepting that each
person's gifts are valued and each one contributes to the betterment of
the whole community; and
WHEREAS, Realizing that there is a time for play as well as work,
student growth at Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate is encouraged spiri-
tually, intellectually, socially, and physically; and
WHEREAS, Father Albert Shamon, the founder of Tyburn Academy of Mary
Immaculate, had a great passion for Catholic education; ordained a
priest in the Rochester, New York, diocese in 1940, he worked as the
Vicar of Education under Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen; he also served as a
pastor, teacher, columnist, author, and radiobroadcaster; and

WHEREAS, Through his parish Father Albert Shamon continually raised
funds to support Catholic schools; returning to his hometown of Auburn,
he set out to fulfill his dream of opening a Catholic high school; with
his guidance, Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate was founded with a hand-
ful of parents and three students in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate is named in honor of over
300 English and Irish martyrs who gave their lives at Tyburn Crossroads,
just outside Hyde Park, London, in the 16th Century; these martyrs
included priests and laity such as St. Edmund Campion, St. Oliver Plunk-
ett, St. Margaret Ward, and Anne Line; the Tyburn logo depicts the
scaffold at Hyde Park on which these martyrs were executed for their
faith; and
WHEREAS, It is only fitting that this Legislative Body extend its
highest commendation to the administration, teachers, staff and parents,
both past and present, of the Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate for
their dedication and commitment to the children, school and community in
the creation of a better world for the children of tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate has been an integral part
of the history of its community, representing a dynamic, responsive and
positive force within the educational system of New York State; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate upon the occasion of hosting
its Ball for the Brave, and paying tribute to this year's honoree on May
20, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Louis Massett, Principal, Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate
and Officer Vincent Carnicelli.
