LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dennis J. Farrell upon the occasion of
his retirement after 28 years of distinguished service as Principal of
Sacred Heart School on June 6, 2016
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the illustrious careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in the young
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Dennis J. Farrell upon the occasion of his retirement after 28 years of
distinguished service as Principal of Sacred Heart School in Bayside,
New York, to be feted at a celebration held in his honor on Monday, June
6, 2016; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated educator for more than four decades, Dennis J.
Farrell has held the esteemed title of Principal of Sacred Heart School
since 1988; his passion for education as well as the love which he has
for his students is self-evident in all that he says and in all that he
does; and
WHEREAS, From the time he was a young boy entering Ss. Joachim and
Anne School, to the time he was a young man graduating from Saint John's
University, Dennis J. Farrell was a product of Catholic education; and
WHEREAS, Dennis J. Farrell began his teaching career at Saint Leo's
Catholic School in Corona, Queens, where he taught eighth grade social
studies; his lessons reflected his passionate teaching style as well as
his creative approach to learning which included differentiated instruc-
tion, learning centers and allowed for both rigor and critical analysis;
and
WHEREAS, Whether Dennis J. Farrell was teaching the Civil War or the
presidential election, he always found the time to connect to his
students; and
WHEREAS, Under his luminous leadership, Dennis J. Farrell is a very
visible Principal and is always checking in with his students on a
personal level at 7:45 A.M. or during the three lunch periods or at 2:45
P.M.; he knows each and every student that he has taught by name, and he
remembers what awards they earned at graduation; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Dennis J. Farrell provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; he has served as teacher, mentor, guidance counselor,
coach and cheerleader for many generations of families; and
WHEREAS, Dennis J. Farrell has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of Sacred Heart School, as well as on the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
education by providing their skills and talents to our schools; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dennis J. Farrell upon the occasion of his retirement after 28
years of distinguished service as Principal of Sacred Heart School, and
for his significant contributions to education in New York State; and to
wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dennis J. Farrell.
