LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Rye High School Girls Varsity
Basketball Team, Coach Dennis Hurlie and Assistant Coach Joe Carlucci
upon the occasion of capturing the New York State Section One Class A
Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, The Rye High School Garnets Girls Varsity Basketball team
follows in a long tradition of excellence in Rye Girls Basketball, a
history of outstanding players, coaches and teamwork that the 2015-16
team lived up to in every respect; and
WHEREAS, The Rye Garnets captured their New York State Section One
Class A Girls Basketball title and hoisted the golden ball by defeating
top-seeded Ursuline by a score of 63-47 at the Westchester County Center
in White Plains, New York, on February 28, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Garnets continued their record of athletic success with a
trip to the Class A Regional Semifinals where they topped both Sauger-
ties and Vestal and reached the Class A State Final Four before their
historic run ended; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coach Dennis Hurlie and Assistant Coach Joe
Carlucci, skilled and inspirational leaders, respected for their ability
to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The team, finishing the season with an impressive 22-5
record, were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Off the court, team members have proven themselves to be an
unbeatable combination of athletic and academic talent, reflecting
favorably on their school with all five seniors earning election to the
National Honor Society and the team qualifying to receive the NYSPHSAA
Scholar Athlete Team Award; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition instills the values of teamwork, sports-
manship, pride and accomplishment; Coach Dennis Hurlie, Assistant Coach
Joe Carlucci, Team Manager Madeline Johnson and all of the outstanding
athletes have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence
that is a tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Rye Girls Varsity Basketball Team; its members: Eleanor
Dailey, Lauren Dempsey, Madeline Eck, Amanda Hartzell, Alizeh Imam,
Serena Imam, Taylor Maurer, Hannah Mullaly, Haley Nemsick, Katie Popp,
Deirdre Potter and Kate Robbins; Head Coach Dennis Hurlie, Assistant
Coach Joe Carlucci and Team Manager Madeline Johnson on their outstand-
ing season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Rye Girls Varsity Basketball Team, Coach
Dennis Hurlie, Assistant Coach Joe Carlucci and Team Manager Madeline
Johnson.
