LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Zonta
Club of Oswego
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those organizations within our midst who have
made significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to recognize for
their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and
publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic
humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 60th
Anniversary of the Zonta Club of Oswego, to be celebrated at its Annual
Dinner Meeting on Tuesday, June 21, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Zonta Club of Oswego is the local affiliate of the world-
wide organization of Zonta International; the membership is comprised of
vibrant, energetic and civic-minded executives and professionals who
serve the community in a wide spectrum of occupations; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its current President Tammy
Thompson, bankers, lawyers, health care professionals, educators and
representatives from public and private industries work together to
address social issues impacting the local and international community;
and
WHEREAS, Founded on June 9, 1955, the Zonta Club of Oswego has been an
active participant in the betterment of its community, and has made a
strong commitment in implementing Zonta International's objective of
"advancing the status of women worldwide"; and
WHEREAS, The Zonta Club of Oswego has had a long-standing relationship
with Services to Aid Families, a local domestic violence program,
providing both financial support and a platform to promote awareness of
domestic violence issues; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to the community, each December the Zonta Club
of Oswego adopts a family in need, purchasing items on the family's
holiday wish list and making financial contributions; volunteers also
assist the Salvation Army with their annual bell ringing fundraiser; and
WHEREAS, In addition, since 1994, through the New York State Depart-
ment of Transportation "Adopt a Highway Program", members have donated
their time and energy to clean up a portion of State Route 104 West,
near the college entrance; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 60 year history, the Zonta Club of
Oswego has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communi-
ties which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Zonta Club of Oswego is in direct corre-
lation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and always
has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthu-
siasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on
behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Zonta Club of Oswe-
go; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Zonta Club of Oswego; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tammy Thompson, President, the Zonta Club of Oswego.
