LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Eggleston
Hill Dairy Farm in Cooperstown, New York, on July 9, 2016

WHEREAS, The agricultural industry is part of the foundation upon which
our distinct American heritage is built; New York State and the entire
United States are dependent on our agricultural industry for a variety
of food products; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
milestones of those farms which substantially contribute to the economic
vitality of their communities and the entire Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Eggleston Hill Dairy Farm in Cooperstown,
New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious event will be celebrated at the 42nd Annual
Eggleston Family Reunion on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the Camphouse on
the corner of the original farm; 125 family members will gather to memo-
rialize 100 Years - Family, Farm and the Gray Fox; and
WHEREAS, At last count, there are over 140 descendants of original
owners, J. Ward and Maria Eggleston, with three of the original eight
children still living; currently, five families are living on the land
that has been part of the farm for the last century; and
WHEREAS, On March 3, 1916, J. Ward and Maria Eggleston bought the
picturesque Eggleston Hill Dairy Farm, what is now known as Eggleston
Dairy Farm, on Eggleston Hill Road in Cooperstown; and
WHEREAS, From 1947-1991, Osborn Eggleston successfully operated the
family dairy business; today, Jeffrey W., Ralph N. and Laura F. Eggle-
ston manage the farm which is comprised of over 200 acres of prime land
and approximately 35 milking cows; and
WHEREAS, For 100 years, Eggleston Dairy Farm, through the tireless
work of many generations of Egglestons, has supplied Otsego County with
quality milk products; and
WHEREAS, Through their diligence and expertise in dairy farming, the
Eggleston family has brought pride and recognition to their local commu-
nity, and to our great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
applaud the leaders of the agricultural industry whose accomplishments
contribute to the economic health and prosperity of the communities of
the State of New York and to the quality of life of its people; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Eggleston Dairy Hill Farm in Coop-
erstown, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eggleston Dairy Farm.
