LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Denise Young upon the occasion of her
retirement as an Organizer for the Public Employees Federation on June
16, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the efforts of those individuals who distinguish themselves in
service to the cause of working men and women in the State of New York;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Denise Young upon the occasion of her retirement as an Organizer for the
Public Employees Federation, to be celebrated at an event on Thursday,
June 16, 2016, at the Workers United Union Hall, Rochester, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious career, Denise Young has held a
variety of jobs within the labor movement; after working for 1199 SEIU,
she served in the Organizing Department at the Public Employees Feder-
ation, a position from which she will officially retire in June of 2016;
and
WHEREAS, The conscience of the progressive movement, Denise Young has
been a member of the adjunct faculty in the Cornell ILR Labor Extension
program, and represents the United Steelworkers on the Rochester Labor
Council Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Denise Young is a proud co-founder of the Band
of Rebels and holds the title of President of Metro Justice; and
WHEREAS, For her steadfast and unremitting commitment to New York's
laborers, Denise Young was one of 12 women recently honored by the Work-
force Development Institute; and
WHEREAS, When she is not fighting for workers' rights or social
justice, Denise Young enjoys spending time with her family and singing
on Sunday evenings with Concentus, an ensemble of remarkable women; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her two sons, Robert (Barbara)
and John "Jack" (Shannon); a daughter, Gillian; and five grandchildren,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious career, Denise Young served the
Public Employees Federation with intelligence and caring dedication,
continuously striving to effectively fulfill the duties of her position;
and
WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with whom
she worked, Denise Young will be remembered for her honesty, integrity,
keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of human problems
in her official acts; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Denise Young upon the occasion of her retirement as an Organizer
for the Public Employees Federation, and to wish her continued success
in all her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Denise Young.
