LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Matthew Fusco upon the occasion of his
retirement as a Labor Lawyer on June 16, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the efforts of those individuals who distinguish themselves in
service to the cause of working men and women in the State of New York;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Matthew Fusco upon the occasion of his retirement as a Labor Lawyer, to
be celebrated at an event on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the Workers
United Union Hall, Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Matthew Fusco earned his bachelor's degree with
honors, as well as a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and Danforth Graduate
Fellowship from Denison University; and
WHEREAS, In 1986, Matthew Fusco graduated from the Buffalo Law School
with high honors and was the recipient of the Max Koren Award for his
scholastic achievement, leadership and dedication to the ideals of the
law; and
WHEREAS, From 1986-1988, Matthew Fusco served as the confidential law
clerk to The Honorable Michael A. Telesca, United States District Court
Judge for the Western District of New York; and
WHEREAS, After entering private practice in 1988, Matthew Fusco
represented labor unions and individual employees on a wide variety of
matters; his union clients included the International Brotherhood of
Teamsters, International Association of Firefighters, Police Benevolent
Association, Amalgamated Transit Union, Rochester Teachers' Association,
SEIC 1199, and The Civil Service Employees' Association, as well as the
Public Employees' Federation; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Matthew Fusco represented individual employees
in employment discrimination cases, civil service cases, wage and hour
claims, and severance negotiations; he is also the attorney for the
Center for Disability Rights and Fight Village Housing Project; and
WHEREAS, An enthusiastic patron of the arts, Matthew Fusco is a member
of the Garth Fagan Dance and Rochester Contemporary Art Gallery Board of
Directors; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Matthew Fusco participates on the
Boards of the Fight Village Housing Project and the New York State Divi-
sion of Human Rights Region 6 Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his profes-
sion, Matthew Fusco has been listed in BEST LAWYERS IN AMERICA since
1997, in Super Lawyers since 2008, and in 2013, he was named Lawyer of
the Year in Labor and Employment Law for Upstate New York; and
WHEREAS, A singular asset to all of the citizens he has served in the
community of the State of New York, Matthew Fusco's life and career are
a portrait of preeminence in public service, and present a role model
for all who aspire to a career in public service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Matthew Fusco upon the occasion of his retirement as a Labor
Lawyer, and to wish him continued success in all his future endeavors;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Matthew Fusco.
