LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Richard Loeschner upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2016 New York State High School
Principal of the Year Award by the School Administrators Association of
New York State

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge indi-
viduals in the distinguished careers of those outstanding educational
leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instrumental in
developing character and academic excellence in the young people of New
York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Richard Loeschner upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2016 New York State High School Principal of the Year Award by the
School Administrators Association of New York State; this auspicious
occasion was celebrated on Friday, May 6, 2016, at an awards ceremony
held at The Century House in Latham, New York; and
WHEREAS, This award is given annually to a member of the School Admin-
istrators Association of New York State (SAANYS) who has set the pace,
character, and quality of education for the students in his or her
school; nominees are administrators who are committed to students,
parents, and the community and have shown exceptional contributions to
the educational process; and
WHEREAS, Richard Loeschner has been a school administrator for 16
years, serving as Principal of Brentwood High School in Brentwood, New
York, for the last seven years; he received both his Bachelor of Arts
and Master of Arts degrees from Stony Brook University, and his profes-
sional diploma from Dowling College, Oakdale, New York; and
WHEREAS, Under Richard Loeschner's guidance, the graduation rate at
Brentwood High School has increased by 17 percent with about 85 percent
of the graduating class attending two or four year colleges, and school
suspensions have been reduced by 65 percent; he has been credited with
leading the school out of significant challenges and turning the school
culture around; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career at Brentwood High School, a
unique school which has one of the largest English Language Learner
populations in New York State, as well as a large population of Students
with Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE), Richard Loeschner has been
able to reach families and students by setting up teams to meet with
students monthly to monitor their progress and give them strategies to
help them acclimate to their brand new environment; the school also
hosts five Bilingual Parent Informational Nights throughout the school
year; and
WHEREAS, Richard Loeschner is a strong believer in a trustful, happy,
and loving learning environment, and makes it a point to be visible all
day, every day, greeting every student as they pass, and attending as
many extra-curricular and special events as possible; his passion,
ideas, and leadership style have had a major impact on Brentwood High
School; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Richard Loeschner goes above and beyond the
typical duties of an administrator by compassionately connecting with
his students; he would give the shirt off his back if it meant providing
a student with the opportunity to complete high school and further a

career, whether it be in college, the military, or the world of work;
and
WHEREAS, Educators like Richard Loeschner provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Richard Loeschner has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of Brentwood High School, as well as on the community-at-large,
and accordingly merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Richard Loeschner upon the occasion of his designation as recip-
ient of the 2016 New York State High School Principal of the Year Award
by the School Administrators Association of New York State; and to wish
him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard Loeschner.
