LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Elizabeth Gilges upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Diocese of Rochester Consistent Life
Ethic VITA Award by the Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes on June
16th, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Gilges has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Elizabeth
Gilges upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Diocese
of Rochester Consistent Life Ethic VITA Award by the Catholic Charities
of the Finger Lakes on Thursday, June 16th, 2016, at Hobart and William
Colleges, Geneva, New York; and
WHEREAS, Raised on Long Island, Elizabeth Gilges , affectionately
known as "Liz", attended Catholic schools for 12 years and graduated
from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics;
she taught for one year before getting married and moving to Europe; and
WHEREAS, After living in Germany, England and Michigan, "Liz" Gilges
decided to settle in the Finger Lakes Region to be closer to her family;
and
WHEREAS, With a passion for helping others, particularly those suffer-
ing from illness or the death of a loved one, "Liz" Gilges has completed
volunteer hospice training for the Light Hill Comfort Care Home which
will be opening this year in Canandaigua; and
WHEREAS, "Liz" Gilges and her loving husband, Kent, are the proud
parents of six children, Alex, Nicholas, Oliver, Hannah, Avery, and the
late Elie; and
WHEREAS, "Liz" Gilges has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, "Liz" Gilges has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which "Liz" Gilges has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elizabeth "Liz" Gilges upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Diocese of Rochester Consistent Life Ethic VITA Award
by the Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes on June 16th, 2016; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elizabeth Gilges.
