LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. Andrea M. Hargett upon the occa-
sion of her designation for special recognition after 19 years of
distinguished service as the Pastor of St. Matthew's Community A.M.E.
Church in Hollis, Queens
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish them-
selves and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preemi-
nence of service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Dr. Andrea
M. Hargett upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
after 19 years of distinguished service as the Pastor of St. Matthew's
Community A.M.E. Church in Hollis, Queens, to be celebrated on Saturday,
March 21, 2015; and
WHEREAS, An educator and advocate for youth, Reverend Dr. Andrea M.
Hargett and the congregation of St. Matthew's Community A.M.E. Church
work side by side fulfilling their call to strengthen families and
communities locally and internationally; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Andrea M. Hargett and the congregation of St.
Matthew's Community A.M.E. Church have partnered with several community
organizations to promote and enhance after school and mentoring
programs; and
WHEREAS, A former teacher with the Department of Education, Reverend
Dr. Andrea M. Hargett recognizes the positive difference a church can
make in the life of individuals, and maximizes the opportunity to foster
spiritual, emotional, social, and academic growth through active minis-
tries and outreach programs; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Reverend Dr. Andrea M. Hargett works with Afri-
can American clergywomen experiencing compassion fatigue; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Andrea M. Hargett has received several degrees
including: Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Hunter College, New
York City; Master of Science degree in Special Education, Adelphi
University, Garden City, New York; Master of Library Science degree,
Queens College, New York City; Master of Divinity degree, New Brunswick
Theological Seminary; Master of Science degree in Education and Advanced
Certificate in School Psychology, Brooklyn College, New York City; and
Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy, Eastern University, Pennsylvania;
and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Warren Hargett,
Sr., and their son, Warren J., Jr., both of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Andrea M. Hargett has brought to her ministry an
overwhelming spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting her administrative and spiritual duties,
while always displaying the highest standards of personal and profes-
sional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman of God has always given enlight-
enment, guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to her care and has
administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal
needs of all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Andrea M. Hargett upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition after 19 years of distinguished service as the
Pastor of St. Matthew's Community A.M.E. Church in Hollis, Queens,
noting her unremitting and compassionate faith and her exemplary service
to God, man, and her community, and extending to her the heartfelt best
wishes of this Legislative Body for a future of purposeful success and
well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Pastor Dr. Andrea M. Hargett.
