LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Richard D. Paul, Sr. upon the occasion
of his selection as Grand Marshal of the 2015 Camden Irish Parade

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout these United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and highlights the many
contributions and historical accomplishments of the Irish community in
this diverse land; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Richard D. Paul, Sr. upon the occasion of his designation as Grand
Marshal of the 2015 Camden Irish Parade; he will have the privilege of
leading this grand event, now in its 14th year, on Saturday, March 21,
2015, in Camden, New York; and
WHEREAS, Richard D. Paul, Sr. was selected as the 2015 Grand Marshal
in recognition of his commitment to and support of the Camden Irish
Parade, as well as his stature as a well-respected citizen of his commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, Richard D. Paul, Sr. joined the Village of Camden, New York,
police force as a patrolman on September 9, 1972; and
WHEREAS, On March 30, 1973, Richard D. Paul, Sr. graduated from the
New York State Police Academy; he was promoted to Sergeant on June 12,
1978, before being appointed to the esteemed position of Police Chief of
Camden, New York, on July 25, 1988; and
WHEREAS, Chief Richard D. Paul, Sr. retired from the Camden Police
Department after 25 years of faithful service to his community; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Richard D. Paul, Sr. served his country as a
member of the United States Army National Guard; in December of 1980, he
received an honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, A member of the New York State Association of Chiefs of
Police, currently, Richard D. Paul, Sr. is an active life member after
20 years of distinguished service; he is also a certified firearms
instructor; and
WHEREAS, Richard D. Paul, Sr. and his wife, Mary, are the proud
parents of two children, Richard, Jr. and Amanda, and the loving grand-
parents of five grandchildren; Richard Paul, Andrew Paul, Ryanne Allen,
Tyson Allen and Lynzi Allen; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Grand Marshal of the 2015 Camden Irish
Parade, Richard D. Paul, Sr. embodies the cherished ideals and values of
Irish-Americans across this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Richard D. Paul, Sr. truly embodies the spirit and the cher-
ished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; it is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individuals
of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention,
they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the
great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard D. Paul, Sr. upon the occasion of his designation as Grand
Marshal of the 2015 Camden Irish Parade; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard D. Paul, Sr.
