LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 96th Anniversary of the Robert
Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337 Broadalbin, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those patriotic
organizations and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 96th Anniversary of the Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post
337 Broadalbin New York, to be celebrated March 21, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The American Legion is the nation's largest and most powerful
organization of US wartime veterans and their families; they have
continued to deliver substantial improvements of veterans, families and
communities; and
WHEREAS, On September 18, 1919, local world war veterans, led by Dr.
BE Chapman, met and voted to form the local American Legion Robert Lee
Walsh Post 337, named in memory of the only area soldier killed in
action; and
WHEREAS, The Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337 purchased the
building once owned by the local McKean Post 289, Grand Army of the
Republic (GAR) which was a Civil War group committed to serving their
community; and
WHEREAS, In 1921, the Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337
welcomed the Woman's Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, The longevity of any organization is due to the faithful
dedication of its members, and the American Legion Auxiliary has had
many wonderful volunteers throughout its 96 years of service; its
mission has been steadfast in helping veterans, military, their families
and children, as well as the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337 has an Adopt-a-
Veteran program, and also supports local Homeless Homes for Female and
Male Veterans; and
WHEREAS, Continuing their community support and involvement mission,
the members of the Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337 offer
financial and personal support to Youth Programs, the local Ambulance
Corps, local Volunteer Fire Departments, K-9 Unit of the Fulton County
Sheriff, and scholarships for Oratorical Competitions of a Patriotic
nature; and
WHEREAS, The Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337, formed to
offer honor and respect to the many that have selflessly served God and
Country, is proud of its Color Guard and participates in services which
honors the passing of a fellow veteran and once a year, participates in
the Four Chaplains Service; and
WHEREAS, The Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337's program "Rose
for Soldiers", sends packages containing items from home to soldiers
throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337 contin-
ues its dedication to fostering the traditions of patriotism, excel-
lence, and commitment which have made our nation strong; it is the
custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the significance of their
contributions and to note their worthy endeavors which have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 96th Anniversary of the Robert Lee Walsh American Legion
Post 337 Broadalbin, New York, and to commend its members, past and
present, on behalf of a grateful community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337.
