LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim March 8-14, 2015, as NO MORE Week in the State of New York

WHEREAS, NO MORE is a movement created to raise awareness of sexual
assault and domestic violence; under the able leadership of its Ambassa-
dor AnnaLynne McCord, NO MORE is working diligently to end these serious
issues; and
WHEREAS, Conceived in 2009, NO MORE was established in March of 2013,
and is supported by hundreds of domestic violence and sexual assault
organizations at the local, state, and national levels; and
WHEREAS, The NO MORE movement was created to normalize discussions
about domestic violence and sexual assault issues, and open up dialogues
to individuals suffering from these traumatic problems; studies show
these issues are rarely brought up or discussed, and many individuals do
not come forward to speak about their concerns; the NO MORE movement
encourages change and strives to make victims feel they can speak up
freely; and
WHEREAS, Inspired by Christine Mau, a survivor of sexual assault and
domestic violence, the NO MORE movement's symbol, which is meant to
resemble a blue vanishing point, looks like a zero to portray the desire
to have zero acts of domestic violence and sexual assault in the United
States; those individuals and organizations who support NO MORE use this
same blue symbol to raise awareness for the cause; and
WHEREAS, The NO MORE movement aspires to be universal with the confi-
dence that organizations and corporations across the country will make
the movement's symbol part of their own, and social media outlets will
boast of its mission as a worthy cause; and
WHEREAS, The NO MORE movement asks those who wish to join to take a
pledge which includes: learning about the issues and talking openly
about them, supporting survivors, speaking up and prohibiting the use of
language which is derogatory against women and eliminating blaming of
the victim, as well as donating time and money to the cause; and
WHEREAS, Today, the State of New York has 23 different organizations
who are allies of the NO MORE movement; and
WHEREAS, Sexual assault and domestic violence create both visible and
invisible scars which continue to haunt victims of all ages years after
these horrific events take place; and
WHEREAS, Awareness of what constitutes sexual assault and domestic
violence and what resources are available to victims is essential in
strengthening the partnership between communities, crisis centers, and
law enforcement agencies in the fight against sexual assault and domes-
tic violence; and
WHEREAS, Sexual assault and domestic violence are horrendous acts of
crime which deserve the attention of this Legislative Body; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 8-14, 2015, as NO
MORE Week in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York, and AnnaLynne McCord, Ambassador, NO MORE movement.
