LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending William H. Barton Intermediate School
upon the occasion of being selected as a 2015 State School of Character
by the Academy for Character Education at The Sage Colleges
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of the Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend William H.
Barton Intermediate School upon the occasion of being selected as a 2015
State School of Character by the Academy for Character Education at The
Sage Colleges; to be celebrated at the Champions of Character Banquet on
Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Franklin Plaza in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Academy for Character Education at The Sage
Colleges and the Character Education Partnership, the New York State
Schools of Character awards program recognizes schools or districts that
demonstrate outstanding school climate and academic performance; and
WHEREAS, Though winners may differ in method, content and scope, all
emphasize core ethical values, define character comprehensively, use a
thorough approach to character and create a caring community; William H.
Barton Intermediate School's adherence to these standards has earned it
the distinguished honor of being named a New York State School of Char-
acter; and
WHEREAS, William H. Barton Intermediate School also provides a chal-
lenging academic curriculum, fosters students' self-motivation, engages
family and community members and assesses its culture and climate; and
WHEREAS, William H. Barton Intermediate School has a Character Educa-
tion Committee that develops a variety of programs and activities
inspired by the principals, to make education and development a priori-
ty; and
WHEREAS, Among the initiatives are developing a Positive Behavior Code
that is exhibited in all classrooms; teachers and staff distribute Bee
Tickets to students who exemplify the policy; those students who earn
enough tickets can participate in reward activities such as the Silly
Olympic games; and
WHEREAS, School officials also display and emphasize their core values
and district mission statement, which is to empower all students to be
lifelong learners, inspired to pursue their dreams and contribute to the
global community; and
WHEREAS, William H. Barton Intermediate School's teachers, teaching
assistants, school counselors, administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria
staff, and maintenance workers all provide an encouraging culture that
helps to develop students into good citizens; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Superintendent Douglas Huntley,
William H. Barton Intermediate School has continually demonstrated an
impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting
enthusiasm for the quality of educational programs and opportunities
offered for the benefit of its faculty and students as well as for the
entire community; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educa-
tors, and administrators to provide the highest quality education for
students has become the hallmark and tradition of William H. Barton
Intermediate School; and
WHEREAS, As superbly exemplified by its success, William H. Barton
Intermediate School stands prepared to reach out, in earnest and enthu-
siastic quest of its mission, to promote the maximum growth of every
student, establishing standards, and building skills which will carry
its students and the citizens of its community into the future; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend William H. Barton Intermediate School upon the occasion of being
selected as a 2015 State School of Character by the Academy for Charac-
ter Education at The Sage Colleges, noting the significance of its
accomplishment, and recognizing the role such effective schools play in
shaping the quality of life in their community, the State and Nation;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Douglas Huntley, Superintendent, Queensbury Union Free School
District.
