LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the East Elmhurst-Corona Civic Associ-
ation upon the occasion of celebrating its 61st Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the East Elmhurst-Corona Civic Association upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 61st Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, In early 1950, a group of local homeowners decided to form an
organization to address the needs and concerns of the community; a
constitution was drafted and in 1951, the East Elmhurst Civic Associ-
ation was formally chartered; and
WHEREAS, During its humble beginnings, the East Elmhurst Civic Associ-
ation held its meetings in homes throughout the community; as this vital
organization grew, a committee was formed and a Club House was purchased
on Ditmars Boulevard which served as its meeting place the third Monday
of each month; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast dedication to the community it so ably
serves, the East Elmhurst Civic Association sponsored the famous Spring
Neighborhood "Trip Around the World" where tickets were sold and guided
tours of designated homes were arranged; County Fairs were held for one
week each summer on the Club House grounds, and a youth baseball team
was formed; and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of then President Jerome Hardeman, a day
care center was sponsored by the organization in the mid-1960s; built at
Gilmore Street and Astoria Boulevard, the center was later renamed the
Jerome Hardeman Day Care Center in honor of his legacy and leadership;
and
WHEREAS, In 1980, then President Emalena Davis urged the Executive
Board to expand membership to include the residents of Corona; during
this time, the charter was amended and the East Elmhurst-Corona Civic
Association was incorporated; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 61 year history, the East Elmhurst-Co-
rona Civic Association has demonstrated continuous service to the resi-
dents and communities which it serves; the subsequent creation of the
Scholarship Program has allowed the organization to donate to community
youth and to support them in obtaining a college education; and
WHEREAS, The success of the East Elmhurst-Corona Civic Association is
in direct correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement
is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the East Elmhurst-Coro-
na Civic Association; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the East Elmhurst-Corona Civic Association upon the occasion of
celebrating its 61st Anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the East Elmhurst-Corona Civic Association.
