LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Professor/Cavaliere Philip J. DiNovo
upon the occasion of his selection as Honorary Chair by the Interna-
tional Center of the Capital Region
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and organ-
izations that provide exemplary service, whether through participation
in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in their
profession or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Professor/Cavaliere Philip J. DiNovo upon the occasion of his selection
as Honorary Chair by the International Center of the Capital Region at
its 2nd Annual International Food Tasting Festival on Thursday, March
26, 2015, at the Linda Auditorium, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, To help recognize Professor/Cavaliere Philip J. DiNovo for
his nearly 40 years of dedication to Italian-American culture, The
Honorable Vice Consul Comm. Stefano Acunto will be in attendance on
behalf of the Consul General of Italy; and
WHEREAS, The International Center of the Capital Region is a non-pro-
fit organization dedicated to promoting international understanding
through fostering cultural exchanges, education, and understanding; and
WHEREAS, A native of Albany, New York, Philip J. DiNovo received his
Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from
the University at Albany; and
WHEREAS, Philip J. DiNovo is the founder of the Business Adminis-
tration Department at Morrisville State College, where he taught for 32
years and served as department chairman for three decades; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Philip J. DiNovo owned and operated DiNovo's
Unique Gift Shop; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Born of a proud Italian heritage, Philip J. DiNovo is the
founder of the American Italian Heritage Association and the Italian
Cultural Center in Utica, New York, as well as the American Italian
Heritage Association and Museum, the largest of its kind in the East;
and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Philip J. DiNovo is the President and Executive
Director of the American Italian Heritage Association and Museum, and is
the editor of its bi-monthly newsletter; he has also authored numerous
articles on Italian Americans for the media; and
WHEREAS, A man of faith, Philip J. DiNovo has been an active member of
his parish and has held almost every position available to a lay person
in his church; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades for his
outstanding service, Philip J. DiNovo was presented with the Faculty of
the Year Award twice by his students, and has received many honors from
Italian-American organizations and community groups; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, The Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy bestowed
upon Philip J. DiNovo the esteemed rank of Cavaliere for his many
contributions to Italian-American culture; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Philip J. DiNovo has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Philip J. DiNovo has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Professor/Cavaliere Philip J. DiNovo upon the occasion of his
selection as Honorary Chair by the International Center of the Capital
Region; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Professor/Cavaliere Philip J. DiNovo.
