LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Governor Andrew M. Cuomo upon the
occasion of his upcoming visit to Cuba

WHEREAS, The State of New York is greatly enriched by its cultural
diversity and proudly shares a multitude of values, as well as spiritual
and families ties, with the people of the Republic of Cuba; and
WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Legislative Body to commend
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo upon the occasion of his upcoming visit to
Cuba, on Monday, April 20, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo will be traveling to Cuba with the
Chief of Cuban Interest Section from Washington, D.C., Jose Ramon Caba-
nas, state officials, and business leaders; and
WHEREAS, This historic trip will be a part of the Governor Andrew M.
Cuomo's Global New York initiative to create new business opportunities
within six countries; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body envisions that Governor Andrew M.
Cuomo's trip will open up state relations with Cuba, and give New York
State the opportunity to be the first to normalize diplomatic relations;
and
WHEREAS, The intention of this monumental venture is to facilitate
travel and trade with the Republic of Cuba, creating numerous opportu-
nities for both New York State businesses and farmers to establish and
take advantage of open exchange with Cuba; and
WHEREAS, The people of this Empire State hope that Governor Andrew M.
Cuomo's travels will culminate with the creation of jobs and stimulate
economic development; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body encourages Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and
his delegation to seek friendship with the Cuban people, foster tourism
and family connections, and develop long-term relationships that are
successful, productive, and beneficial for the people of New York; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Governor Andrew M. Cuomo upon the occasion of his upcoming visit
to Cuba; and extend to him best wishes for a safe and fruitful journey;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, Jose Ramon Caba-
nas, and to the delegation members.
