LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Matthew Peter upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Young Alumnus in Political Science Award
by the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Matthew Peter has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Matthew Peter
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Young Alumnus
in Political Science Award by the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs
& Policy, to be celebrated at its 2015 Alumni Dinner and Awards Ceremony
on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the New York State Museum, Albany, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Each year, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy
honors individuals such as Matthew Peter, for their outstanding contrib-
utions in the areas of political science, public administration, leader-
ship, and continuing professional development; and
WHEREAS, Matthew Peter earned both a Bachelor's degree and a Master's
degree in Political Science with a focus on International Relations from
Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy at the State University
of New York (SUNY) at Albany, in 2006 and 2007 respectively; and
WHEREAS, In the summer of 2007, Matthew Peter traveled and worked in
Jordan, as an International Fellow with the SUNY Center for Interna-
tional Development; upon his return to the United States, he served the
New York State Governor as a Graduate Intern and then as a full-time
staff member in the Appointments Office; and
WHEREAS, In May of 2008, Matthew Peter held the position of Tax Policy
Analyst with the New York State Office of Taxation and Finance; and
WHEREAS, On December 31, 2012, Matthew Peter was selected to manage
Kathy Sheehan's Mayoral Campaign in Albany, New York; following the
election, he coordinated her transition team, and on January 1, 2014, he
was appointed to the title of Chief of Staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Matthew Peter upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Young Alumnus in Political Science Award by the Rockefeller College
of Public Affairs & Policy; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Matthew Peter.
