LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael J. Malbin, Ph.D. upon the occa-
sion of his designation as recipient of the Rockefeller College Distin-
guished Service Award by the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs &
Policy
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Michael J. Malbin, Ph.D. has given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Michael J.
Malbin, Ph.D. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Rockefeller College Distinguished Service Award by the Rockefeller
College of Public Affairs & Policy, to be celebrated at its 2015 Alumni
Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the New York
State Museum, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy
honors individuals such as Professor Michael J. Malbin, for their
outstanding contributions in the areas of political science, public
administration, leadership, and continuing professional development; and
WHEREAS, In 1973, Michael J. Malbin earned his Ph.D. from Cornell
University, Ithaca, New York; for 17 years, he was employed as a repor-
ter in Washington, D.C.; his early publications focused on congressional
reform, party reform and congressional staffing; and
WHEREAS, Since 1990, Michael J. Malbin has held the position of
Professor of Political Science at the State University of New York
(SUNY) at Albany; his teaching has emphasized legislative politics and
elections; and
WHEREAS, For the past 18 years, Professor Michael J. Malbin has been
the Director of SUNY at Albany's Semester in Washington Program for
advanced undergraduate students; this program is an integral part of the
Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy's Department of Political
Science, bringing its Albany-based students to Washington, D.C. for a
semester to live and work in the Nation's capital; and
WHEREAS, Interested in the role that money plays in politics, Profes-
sor Michael J. Malbin became the Director of The Campaign Finance Insti-
tute in Washington, D.C. in 1999; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who have
shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high stand-
ards in their profession, certainly have earned the recognition and
applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael J. Malbin, Ph.D. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Rockefeller College Distinguished Service Award by the
Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael J. Malbin, Ph.D.
