LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Walter C. Gage upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Springstead Award by the Geneva Rotary
Club on May 7, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those who distin-
guish themselves in their profession and in service to their community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Walter C. Gage upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Springstead Award by the Geneva Rotary Club, to be celebrated at its
Service Above Self Event on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Club 86, Geneva,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Rotary International is dedicated to the development of
fellowship and understanding among business and professional leaders,
the promotion of community-betterment endeavors and of high standards in
business and professional practices, and the advancement of interna-
tional understanding, goodwill and peace; and
WHEREAS, Each year since 2010, the Rotary Club of Geneva proudly
honors individuals who exemplify those principles of exemplary community
service; Walter C. Gage truly merits such recognition; and
WHEREAS, An attorney and city judge for many years, Walter C. Gage
moved to Geneva in 1965 from the Ontario County Town of Gorham and began
the practice of law with his brother; although he is now retired from
his attorney and judicial careers, the Seneca Street law firm still
bears the name Gage, Gage & Bleakley; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Walter C. Gage gave 32 years of distinguished
service to Hobart and William Smith Colleges as an Instructor of its Law
courses; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Walter C. Gage led the revival of
the Jaycees organization in Geneva and served as President the first
year; he also served as President of the American Red Cross Board of
Directors as well as President of the Ontario County Bar Association and
Vice-President of the Yates County Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man has served the Ontario County IDA for 25
years, and the Boys and Girls Clubs/Community Center Board for six
years; he is a Charter Member and Life Member of the Statesmen Athletic
Association at Hobart College and a Geneva Country Club Board Member,
serving as its President three times; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast dedication to local youth, Walter C. Gage
has given tirelessly of his time and energy to the students of Geneva
High School, assisting with Moot Court and jury selection in the class-
room; he has also volunteered with the local Boy Scouts, Geneva Scholar-
ship Associates and the Geneva Lakefront Committee; and
WHEREAS, Walter C. Gage is the proud recipient of numerous awards and
accolades including the Paul Harris Fellow Award, Rotary International's
highest honor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Joan, and their three
children, Mark (Kelly), David (Theresa), and Lisa, as well as five
grandchildren, Meghan, Amy, Kevin, Bryna and Tess, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Walter C. Gage has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Walter C. Gage upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Springstead Award by the Geneva Rotary Club on May 7, 2015, and
to wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Walter C. Gage.
