LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Kiwanis International upon the occa-
sion of celebrating its 100th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Kiwanis International upon the occasion of celebrating its 100th Anni-
versary; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to
changing the world, one child and one community at a time; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization and its family of clubs, more than
600,000 members strong, annually raise countless funds and dedicate more
than 18.5 million volunteer hours to strengthen communities and serve
children; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis International members of all ages attend regular
meetings, experience fellowship, raise funds for various causes and
participate in service projects which help their communities; in addi-
tion, its members make an impact throughout the world by participating
in Kiwanis International's Global Campaign for Children, the Eliminate
Project, which strives to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus; and
WHEREAS, The six permanent objectives of Kiwanis International are to:
give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material
values of life; encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all
human relationships; promote the adoption and the application of higher
social, business, and professional standards; develop, by precept and
example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship;
provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring
friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communi-
ties; and cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opin-
ion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness,
justice, patriotism, and goodwill; and
WHEREAS, The New York District of Kiwanis International has played a
key role in the history of the international organization, which was
founded in 1915; and
WHEREAS, The first Kiwanis Club in the New York State District was
formed in Rochester, New York; the charter process for this Club was
completed on May 1, 1916, and George F. Hixon, Esq. served as its first
President; and
WHEREAS, Of the first 25 Kiwanis Clubs in the world, eight were formed
in New York State, and were organized between 1916-1919; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the New York State District of Kiwanis
has helped to improve the lives of countless children and New York fami-
lies residing throughout this great State; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 100 year history, Kiwanis Interna-
tional has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communi-
ties which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of Kiwanis International is in direct correlation
to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and always has
been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusi-
asm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on
behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Kiwanis Interna-
tional; and

WHEREAS, Organizations of singular distinction such as Kiwanis Inter-
national provide a model for enhancing the quality of life in the commu-
nity and, as such, merit the grateful praise of the community of the
State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kiwanis International upon the occasion of celebrating its 100th
Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kiwanis International.
