LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sharon King upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2015 Liberty Bell Award from the Warren
County Bar Association

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, are reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate their
lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sharon King upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2015 Liberty Bell Award from the Warren County Bar Association to be
celebrated on Friday, May 1, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Liberty Bell Award, given each year on Law Day, which is
May 1st, by local bar associations, honors exemplary citizens within the
local community; the award recognizes outstanding service performed by a
non-lawyer citizen who volunteers their time and efforts to serve the
community; and
WHEREAS, Such service may include activities which promote a better
understanding of America's form of government, stimulating a deeper
sense of individual responsibility to the end that citizens recognize
their duties as well as their rights; and
WHEREAS, Sharon King has dedicated her life to helping victims of
sexual assault and domestic violence seek safety, support, and justice;
and
WHEREAS, A tremendous advocate for the rights of those seeking
protection and justice within the system, Sharon King has accompanied
victims to hospitals and court rooms, and facilitated community change
through the development and implementation of programs which work to
increase awareness and improve responses to this serious problem; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has worked tirelessly to mobilize commu-
nities on behalf of sexual assault and domestic violence victims across
three different states; her work in both Warren and Washington Counties
has focused on engaging male youth to be activists and allies in the
movement to prevent violence against women; and
WHEREAS, Sharon King has received both statewide as well as national
attention for her distinguished efforts; she is the proud mother of two
daughters and enjoys hiking, traveling, camping, and kayaking; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which this remarkable woman has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sharon King upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2015 Liberty Bell Award from the Warren County Bar Association; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sharon King.
