LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ann Manson Main upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2015 Liberty Bell Award by the Franklin
County Bar Association

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, are reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate their
lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ann
Manson Main upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2015 Liberty Bell Award by the Franklin County Bar Association to be
celebrated on Friday, May 1, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Liberty Bell Award, given each year on Law Day, which is
May 1st, by local bar associations, honors exemplary citizens within the
local community; the award recognizes outstanding service performed by a
non-lawyer citizen who volunteers their time and efforts to serve the
community; and
WHEREAS, Such service may include activities which promote a better
understanding of America's form of government, stimulating a deeper
sense of individual responsibility to the end that citizens recognize
their duties as well as their rights; and
WHEREAS, Anne Manson was born on May 25, 1927, in Malone, New York;
she attended local public schools and graduated from the Franklin Acade-
my in 1944; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman received her bachelors degree from Marjo-
rie Webster Junior College and worked in the office of United States
Senator Alexander Wiley of Wisconsin; following her return to Malone,
she was employed as an office secretary and at the Hyde Drug Company
where she had previously worked as a fountain girl; and
WHEREAS, On August 27, 1950, Ann Manson married Robert G. Main, Sr.;
the couple had two children, Robert G. Main Jr. and Lucy Ann Main; they
enjoyed nearly 50 years of wedded bliss together; and
WHEREAS, Ann Manson Main has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; she has made substantial donations to
such worthy causes as the Alice Hyde Medical Center, the Franklin Acade-
my Academic Board of Trustees, and a number of other local charities;
and
WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Ann Manson Main served as a communicant at
Notre Dame Church, taught religious education classes, and was a volun-
teer director of religious education; in addition, she helped found the
local St. Vincent de Paul store during the early 1960s; and
WHEREAS, Ann Manson Main is an avid reader and maker of crafts; her
self-designed, hand-knit baby caps can be found locally and around the
world, and are also the inspiration for her daughter's books on knit-
ting; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which this remarkable woman has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anne Manson Main upon the occasion of her designation as recipient

of the 2015 Liberty Bell Award from the Franklin County Bar Association;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anne Manson Main.
