LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Beverly Gridley upon the occasion of
her designation as the 2015 Guilford Citizen of the Year on May 25, 2015

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Beverly
Gridley upon the occasion of her designation as the 2015 Guilford Citi-
zen of the Year to be celebrated at the Guilford Memorial Day Parade on
Monday, May 25, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Gridley has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In 1957, Beverly Gridley became a resident of Guilford, New
York; 10 years later, she and her husband moved to the village; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Gridley is a faithful and active member of the Guil-
ford United Methodist Church; throughout the years, she has volunteered
for many church projects and organizations, including Sunday School,
Vacation Bible School, a booth at the Chenango County Fair, rejuvenation
projects, rummage and bake sales, and the Annual Harvest Dinner and
other meals, as well as the food bank and thrift store; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Beverly Gridley has served as the activity lead-
er, both a member and officer of the United Methodist Women's group, and
participated on the church's Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Gridley is also devoted to her community, serving in
many different roles, such as an active supporter of the Guilford
Historical Society, and a volunteer at the American Heart Association
and the American Cancer Society; she also helped organize the Guilford
1976 Bicentennial Celebration, as well as assisted with the Guilford
Fire Department community picnics; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Beverly Gridley is a member of the Quilt Club
and the Annual Guilford Community Day Planning Committee and serves on
the Board of Elections; she has also held the positions of Brownie and
Girl Scout Leader, advisor for the Carry On 4H Club and the Blue Bonnet
4H Club, and both Secretary and Treasurer of the Yaleville Cemetery
Board; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Beverly Gridley has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband, Hobie, who feels
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoices in her achievements;
and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Beverly Gridley has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Beverly Gridley upon the occasion of her designation as the 2015
Guilford Citizen of the Year on May 25, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Beverly Gridley.
