LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Adiron-
dack Landowners Association on May 8, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the continuing
welfare of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched and
reliably served by the purposeful endeavors of associations which are
committed to the preservation of our natural environment and the
enhancement of the appreciation of the distinctive features of our
surroundings, and to the economic well-being of the areas in which they
exist; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of the Adirondack Landowners Association, to
be celebrated at a dinner on Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Minnowbrook
Conference Center, Blue Mountain Lake, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1990, the Adirondack Landowners Association
(ALA) is comprised of a group of private landowners, who collectively
own over 200,000 acres in the Adirondack Park; its membership, which
totals over 3,500 individuals, is made up of clubs, family groups and
private preserves, some with ownership dating back to the mid-1800s; and
WHEREAS, ALA was founded to encourage continued stewardship and sound
resource management of the land, promote public awareness of the valu-
able role played by private landowners in the Park, and to advocate
laws, regulations and governmental policies that promote and facilitate
good stewardship by private landowners and recognize and preserve their
rights in the land; and
WHEREAS, The ALA are significant employers, taxpayers, and contribu-
tors to the economic and environmental health of the Adirondack Park; in
addition, this vital organization has been a leader in the study of acid
rain, wildlife management and scientific prevention of the spread of
invasive species through education and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Today, under the luminous leadership of President Thomas E.
Williams, ALA's members are active in a wide variety of organizations
that work to support wise resource management and sound environmental
conservation; many members work closely with state and local officials
to help promote better communication among the various stakeholder
groups in the Adirondacks through participation in workshops, discussion
groups and various not-for-profit advocacy organizations; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the seasons, the Adirondack Park is a destination
for visitors who seek the historical, cultural, and recreational
resources of the area; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all citizens to recognize and applaud
the efforts of organizations such as the Adirondack Landowners Associ-
ation which work tirelessly on behalf of protecting our natural
surroundings for the benefit of present and future generations of New
Yorkers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Adirondack Landowners Associ-
ation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Thomas E. Williams, President, Adirondack Landowners Associ-
ation.
