LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Barbara Sweet upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Wakpominee District Good Scout Award by
the Twin Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Barbara Sweet
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Wakpominee
District Good Scout Award by the Twin Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts
of America to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Great
Escape Lodge, Queensbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is bestowed upon individuals who exem-
plify, in daily life, the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America, as
expressed in the Scout Oath and Law; the recipients are chosen for their
outstanding community service through leadership, as well as for the
respect and esteem in which their colleagues hold them; Barbara Sweet is
one such individual; and
WHEREAS, Prior to holding the esteemed position of Executive Director
of the Tri-County United Way for eight years, Barbara Sweet served as
the Executive Director of the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce in
Westport, Connecticut, as well as the Government Affairs Director for
the Adirondack Regional Chambers of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, A native of Glens Falls, New York, Barbara Sweet raised her
family in Newcomb, New York; a dedicated member of her community, she
has held numerous leadership positions in various organizations, includ-
ing Town Councilperson, Chair of the Town of Newcomb Planning Board,
Chairperson of the Essex County Industrial Development Agency, and is
currently the President-Elect of the Glens Falls Rotary Board; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Barbara Sweet served as a member of the Northern
Forest Lands Council, and held the title of Commissioner of the Adiron-
dack Park Agency, chairing the Economic Development Committee; today,
she is the Vice-Chair of the Hudson Headwaters Board; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Sweet has been the recipient of several awards and
accolades for her philanthropic works, including the Adirondacker of the
Year, Adirondack Achievement Award, Citizen of the Year, Rotarian of the
Year, and the Soroptomist of the Year Award, as well as the David J.
Capron Humanitarian Award; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those individ-
uals who enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have
shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have
earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara Sweet upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Wakpominee District Good Scout Award from the Twin Rivers Council of
the Boy Scouts of America; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara Sweet.
