LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent
Association of New York upon the occasion of its celebration of Asian
Heritage Month 2015 on May 23, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend organizations of true purpose and worthy accomplishment which,
through their endeavors, enhance the quality of life of others and
foster a spirit of community, service, and pride of heritage; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of New York (CCBA) upon
the occasion of its celebration of Asian Heritage Month 2015 on Satur-
day. May 23, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association's celebration
will be held in the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Auditorium at the CCBA's
Chinese Community Center on Mott Street in New York City's Chinatown;
and
WHEREAS, The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association is the oldest
community organization in Chinatown; the parent organization of the
Chinese Community Center, the CCBA was founded in 1883 and has repres-
ented and served the needs and protect the interests of Chinese Ameri-
cans in New York City and the Greater New York Metro Area since that
time; and
WHEREAS, In New York City, the CCBA is an umbrella organization of 60
member organizations, representing a cross section of New York's Chinese
community, and has a proud history of working diligently to keep the
Chinese-American community intact and vigorous, and to meet the needs of
those it serves; and
WHEREAS, Today, under the able leadership of President Jack Ng, CCBA
provides a number of services to the Chinese-American community, includ-
ing social services; youth services; advocacy, training and support of
small businesses; and personal and commercial conflict resolution and
mediation; it also serves as a bridge between Chinese and American
groups; promotes Chinese interests; sponsors educational and recreation-
al activities; and engages in a variety of charitable activities such as
aid for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami disasters in south
Asia; and
WHEREAS, Due to CCBA's passion to meet the needs and interests of the
community they offer many athletic programs, the annual Mid-Autumn
Festival Party, and many other events aimed at unifying the Chinese-Am-
erican community in New York and promoting cross-cultural interaction;
and
WHEREAS, On behalf of the people of the City and State of New York,
this Legislative Body is pleased to have the opportunity to recognize
the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association and its many worthy
endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of New York upon
the occasion of its celebration of Asian Heritage Month 2015 on May 23,
2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jack Ng, President, Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Associ-
ation of New York.
