LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lyons National Bank upon the occasion of
its designation as recipient of the 2014 Business of the Year Award by
the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize those
illustrious institutions in the State of New York whose purposeful
endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lyons National Bank on the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the 2014 Business of the Year Award by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce,
to be celebrated at its 112th Annual Dinner at Club 86, Geneva, New
York, on Thursday, January 29, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce takes a leadership role
in promoting Geneva through the many services it offers for its members
and the community; it serves to encourage and support new businesses and
professional opportunities, facilitate tourism, and promote the growth
of current businesses in the community; and
WHEREAS, The Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce's Business of the Year
Award, the highest honor a Geneva business can receive locally, is
presented annually to one business for its outstanding contributions to
the community; and
WHEREAS, The Lyons National Bank has a long-standing tradition of
excellence and service dating back to its founding in 1852, when lawyer,
land baron, and entrepreneur DeWitt Parshall chartered a private banking
house in the upper floor of a building in Lyons, New York, naming it the
Palmyra Bank of Lyons; and
WHEREAS, In 1865, the Lyons National Bank obtained its National char-
ter, and in the late 1920s, underwent extensive improvements; during the
Great Depression, it merged with the Gavitt National Bank, reopening
under the charter of The Lyons National Bank; and
WHEREAS, Today, this esteemed institution has 12 branches throughout
Wayne, Onondaga, Yates, Ontario, and Seneca counties, and will be open-
ing its first branch in Monroe County in 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Lyons National Bank is well-known for its generosity and
commitment to community involvement; it has made significant contrib-
utions to countless charitable and not-for-profit organizations through-
out the region; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the employees of the Lyons National Bank hold
numerous fundraising events throughout the year with donations benefit-
ting many worthy causes; in 2013, the employees donated an estimated
12,000 hours of their time to community service and volunteer activ-
ities; and
WHEREAS, With an unrivaled record of philanthropy and sponsorship, the
Lyons National Bank continues as a cornerstone within the Geneva commu-
nity; its remarkable efforts merit the recognition and respectful trib-
ute of the citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those organiza-
tions for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative, Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lyons National Bank upon the occasion of its designation as recip-
ient of the 2014 Business of the Year Award by the Geneva Area Chamber
of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lyons National Bank.
