LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Michele A. Roberts upon the occa-
sion of being named Executive Director of the National Basketball Play-
ers Association in July of 2014
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Michele A. Roberts has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Michele
A. Roberts upon the occasion of being named Executive Director of the
National Basketball Players Association in July of 2014, receiving 32 of
36 votes; and
WHEREAS, Michele A. Roberts is the first woman to hold the esteemed
position of Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Asso-
ciation, and is the first female union head of one of the four major
professional sports leagues in North America; and
WHEREAS, A native of the South Bronx and currently of Harlem, Michele
A. Roberts earned her bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University in
1977, and received her Juris Doctor from University of California Berk-
ley School of Law in 1980; and
WHEREAS, Michele A. Roberts has received numerous accolades during her
distinguished career including being named one of ESPNW's Impact 25; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Michele A. Roberts is an adjunct faculty member
at Harvard Law School, and a fellow of the American College of Trial
Lawyers; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Michele A. Roberts has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Michele A. Roberts has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend individ-
uals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and commitment
toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and acting as
role models of leadership to be emulated by their peers; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Michele A. Roberts upon the occasion of being named Execu-
tive Director of the National Basketball Players Association; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michele A. Roberts.
