LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Nino Corvato upon the occasion of his
designation as the 2015 Italian American of the Year by the New York
Conference of Italian American State Legislators

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who foster
ethnic pride and strive to preserve their cultural heritage, thereby
enhancing the profile of cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric
of community throughout this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Nino Corvato upon the occasion of his designation as the 2015 Italian
American of the Year by the New York Conference of Italian American
State Legislators to be celebrated on June 8, 2015, in Albany, New York;
and
WHEREAS, A native of Palermo, Sicily, Nino Corvato left his tailor
shop to emigrate to a new life in America at the age of 20; and
WHEREAS, Nino Corvato has been a master tailor for over 50 years
creating custom made clothing; at the age of 74, he is one of the most
sought after tailors in the world; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable craftsman is one of only a handful of tailors
left in the United States with his particular set of exalted skills;
each suit he creates is a unique work of art requiring three fittings
and over 60 hours of labor; and
WHEREAS, Nino Corvato once taught at the prestigious Parsons School of
Design, and envisions starting a non-profit school for young tailors to
encourage a new generation to take up this distinguished profession; and
WHEREAS, For his persistence in leaving his homeland and dedication to
his craft which has made him one of the most famous tailors throughout
the world, Nino Corvato is more than worthy of applause and recognition
from the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Nino Corvato has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, Nino Corvato has truly distinguished himself through his
wonderful career and service to others, and, subsequently, the Italian-
American community and all of New York State has profited greatly from
his talent and dedication; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Nino Corvato upon the occasion of his designation as the 2015
Italian American of the Year by the New York Conference of Italian Amer-
ican State Legislators; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nino Corvato.
