LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring eight-year old Anaya Lee Willabus upon
the occasion of her designation for special recognition after writing
her first book, THE DAY MOHAN FOUND HIS CONFIDENCE

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor eight-year old
Anaya Lee Willabus upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition after writing her first book, THE DAY MOHAN FOUND HIS CONFI-
DENCE; and
WHEREAS, Anaya Lee Willabus is an eight-year old author and visionary
who enjoys reading and playing sports; she was born and raised in Mill
Basin, Brooklyn, where she resides with her parents and two siblings;
and
WHEREAS, At the tender age of two, Anaya Lee Willabus was taught to
read by her father, during which time she began to memorize books,
demonstrating an acutely photographic memory; and
WHEREAS, A student at Mill Basin Public School 236, Anaya Lee Willabus
immerses herself throughout the school year in books of all genres,
while during the summer months, she attends the Summer Reading Program;
the program has proven to be a motivational challenge, as each year, she
makes it her goal to surpass the previous year's book total; and
WHEREAS, Anaya Lee Willabus reads in excess of 40 books during the
summer; to maintain her comprehension skills, she then writes detailed
essays on many of the books and illustrates her favorite part, both
expressing her opinion of her findings and further building on her
literacy skills; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her unwavering passion for reading, Anaya Lee
Willabus also enjoys spending time playing soccer and practices Shotokan
Karate; in her free time, she plays with her dolls, goes to the park and
spends time with her brother, Brandon; she aspires to be a well-known
author and teacher when she grows up; and
WHEREAS, Anaya Lee Willabus' book, THE DAY MOHAN FOUND HIS CONFIDENCE,
was written after her inaugural trip to her parents homeland of Guyana,
South America in April of 2014; upon her return, she started jotting
notes from her visit, documenting cultural differences; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, with her composition of writings seemingly
worthy of her parents attention, her notes were thereafter drafted on
the computer; throughout the course of more than a year, Anaya Lee
Willabus worked tirelessly and developed her first published chapter
book; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, Anaya
Lee Willabus now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplish-
ments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and
appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers,
coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor eight-year old Anaya Lee Willabus upon the occasion of her desig-
nation for special recognition after writing her first book, THE DAY
MOHAN FOUND HIS CONFIDENCE; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anaya Lee Willabus.
