LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Monroe-Woodbury High School
Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the occasion of capturing First Place at
Odyssey World Finals

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those who, by achieving outstanding success in their educa-
tional endeavors and competitions, have inspired and brought pride to
our majestic Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
the dedication and commitment of our young people who distinguish them-
selves through excellence in scholastic competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Monroe-Woodbury High School Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the
occasion of capturing First Place at Odyssey World Finals held on
Wednesday, May 20, 2015, in East Lansing, Michigan; and
WHEREAS, Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program
that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from
kindergarten through college; team members apply their creativity to
solve problems which range from building mechanical devices to present-
ing their own interpretation of literary classics; and
WHEREAS, Odyssey World teams share ideas and connect with individuals
from across the globe through exchanging cultural gifts, enjoying meals
together, and cheering each other on in competition; and
WHEREAS, The Monroe-Woodbury High School Odyssey of the Mind Team
competed against 34 teams from around the world to win its third consec-
utive Championship at the Odyssey World Finals, receiving the highest
score for their creative problem solving of the Vehicle Problem: "Runa-
way Train"; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record is outstanding, and the team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous guidance of Coaches Joann and Jessica
Mazzola, this remarkable team of high school students has achieved
excellence in group problem solving; they have also contributed to the
district wide program, and generously shared their vast knowledge with
the younger teams; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers,
coaches, and family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Monroe-Woodbury High School Odyssey of the Mind Team
upon the occasion of capturing First Place at the Odyssey World Finals,
and offer them its best wishes for a future of purposeful success and
well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Monroe-Woodbury High School Odyssey of the Mind Team, and
Coaches Joann and Jessica Mazzola.
