LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Highway Superintendent Daniel Mahaney
upon the occasion of his many years of distinguished service to the Town
of Hannibal
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past several years, Daniel Mahaney has rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the Town of Hannibal; in
his capacity as Highway Superintendent, he has served with loyalty,
honor and distinction; he will officially retire on December 31, 2015;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Daniel Mahaney has been improving the
safety of the town's 56 miles of highways, while staying within the
limit of a strict budget during tough economic times; he was also
instrumental in obtaining grants to help offset taxpayers' expenses; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Mahaney attended the Cornell Local Roads Highway
School for nine consecutive years, and has extensive training in Emer-
gency Management, as well as over 30 years of mechanical and electrical
maintenance experience; in addition, he served as the Union Steward for
Local 43; and
WHEREAS, Prior to holding the position of Superintendent, Dan Mahaney
served as Deputy Town Supervisor, as well as Councilman on the Town
Board for seven years; during this time, he was also the liaison between
the Highway Department and the Town Board; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Dan Mahaney participated on the Oswego County Solid
Waste Management Advisory Board, and held the position of Chairman of
the Town Planning Board; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Hannibal, Dan Mahaney graduated from
Hannibal Central School in 1972; in 1985, he built his own home on Brown
Road; and
WHEREAS, Dan Mahaney has been a dedicated member of his community
participating in numerous clubs such as the Hannibal Historical Society,
and Country Cruizer's Car Club; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man has held various leadership positions in
several organizations, including Financial Officer and Vice Commander of
the 5th District Sons of American Legion, Squadron 1552, President of
IOOB Club No. 1647, and both President and County Representative of the
Harold J. Flynn Division Ancient Order of Hibernians; and
WHEREAS, Dan Mahaney is an active volunteer for Dollars for Scholars,
one of the original organizers of the Hannibal Winterfest, and a member
of the advisory committee for the Center for Career & Community Educa-
tion; and
WHEREAS, In his spare time, Dan Mahaney enjoys hunting, golfing, work-
ing on his 1931 Model A Ford, and exploring his genealogy; he also loves
traveling and sightseeing, and watching the Yankees and Nascar; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife, Ann, and their
daughter Kara, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Dan Mahaney was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Town of Hannibal, Daniel Mahaney
earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Daniel Mahaney upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the Town of Hannibal; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Daniel Mahaney.
