LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Constance Evelyn for her ceaseless dedi-
cation as Superintendent of the Auburn Enlarged City School District
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and the
success of the Auburn Enlarged City School District is due in large part
to the efforts of Constance Evelyn; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Constance
Evelyn for her ceaseless dedication as Superintendent of the Auburn
Enlarged City School District; she will officially begin her new role as
Superintendent of the Valley Stream Union Free School District 13 in
Nassau County on July 1, 2015; and
WHEREAS, After being placed for adoption as a baby, the orphanage
where Constance Evelyn spent the first months of her life initially
refused to allow her parents to adopt her, identifying her as delayed;
her mother returned to the orphanage four times before she was able to
take her home; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Jamaica, Queens, Constance Evelyn's parents worked
tirelessly with her and today, this baby labeled as delayed, serves as a
true inspiration and mentor to her students; she has served as Super-
intendent of the Auburn Enlarged City School District, Cayuga County's
largest school district, for the past three years with integrity and
distinction; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure with the District, Constance Evelyn has
worked diligently on behalf of the children and educators within the
community to ensure access to excellent educational programming in
Auburn; and
WHEREAS, Prior to coming to Auburn, Constance Evelyn held various
instructional and leadership positions; she was the Assistant Super-
intendent of Curriculum and Instruction in the Ithaca City School
District, Middle School Principal in Oswego City Schools, Middle School
Principal in Rome City Schools, Assistant Principal at Rome Free Acade-
my, as well as Learning Specialist and Special Education Teacher in the
Bedford Central School District; and
WHEREAS, Constance Evelyn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychol-
ogy from the College of Staten Island, a Master of Science degree in
Special Education Pre-K through Grade 12, and a Supervision and Adminis-
trative degree from Long Island University; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, this esteemed woman was selected to serve on the
Smart Schools Commission, a three-member commission tasked with recom-
mending the best way to spend available funds to boost technology in
classrooms across New York State; and
WHEREAS, A caring, competent and committed leader, Constance Evelyn's
character and integrity are the hallmarks of her life and work as a
school district leader, a community volunteer and as a person; her quiet
approach and caring attitude creates confidence and loyalty among
colleagues and friends alike; and
WHEREAS, The Auburn Community is indeed fortunate and blessed to have
such a dedicated and respected educational leader; her wisdom and
contributions reached into every classroom, and she truly made a differ-
ence in the lives of those lucky enough to have worked with her; and
WHEREAS, Constance Evelyn has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at the
Auburn Enlarged City School District for the benefit of its faculty and
students, as well as for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Robert, and their
two sons, Keiro and Denzall, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, In completing her service as a District Superintendent of
Schools, Constance Evelyn leaves behind more than mere bricks and
mortar; she leaves behind a legacy to the residents of the Auburn commu-
nity and to future generations of its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Constance Evelyn for her ceaseless dedication as Superintendent of
the Auburn Enlarged City School District, and to wish her continued
success in all her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Constance Evelyn.
