LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Willie L. Rennick upon the occa-
sion of celebrating his 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Willie L. Rennick was born on August 5, 1915, in Whitmire,
South Carolina, one of 15 children of the late John W. Rennick and Sarah
Sims; to celebrate this auspicious milestone a party will be held in his
honor on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at the Macedonia Center, Mount Vernon,
New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1923, Willie L. Rennick, at the young age of eight, moved
with his family from Whitmire to Wadesboro, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, On January 10, 1939, he met his future wife of 52 years, the
former Louise Sellers; together they had one son, Willie Loney Rennick,
Jr.; the Rennicks re-located to Mount Vernon, New York, on October 24,
1944; and
WHEREAS, Willie L. Rennick was employed at an aluminum plant in New
Jersey, for several years; he then was hired by Westchester County to
work in the court house until he retired on February 13, 1981; after his
official retirement, he held a part-time position as a
gardener/handyman; and
WHEREAS, In 1946, Willie L. Rennick became a faithful member of the
Macedonia Baptist Church, in Mount Vernon, where today, he continues to
worship; a dedicated parishioner, he organized the Junior Usher Board to
benefit the young people of his church; he remained active in his church
also serving as a member of the Trustee Board; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Willie L. Rennick was then employed by the De
Palo family until he was 93 years old; today, he enjoys talking about
his life in the Old South and his early years in Mount Vernon, and
spending time with his beloved family; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his son, Willie Loney Rennick,
Jr., and two grandchildren, Kevin and Kim, as well as four great-grand-
children, Shante', Stephanas, Julian, and Josepha, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with his zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved man has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Willie L. Rennick upon the occasion of celebrating his
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Willie L. Rennick.
