LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Matthew V. Scaglione upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the 2014 Rising Star Award by the
Seneca County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize
those extraordinary individuals who have made contributions to the
success and progress of society in the course of their life's work; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Matthew V. Scaglione upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2014 Rising Star Award by the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce,
to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner Meeting on Friday, January 23,
2015, at Ventosa Vineyards, Geneva, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Rising Star Award is given to a young professional (40 or
under) who has made outstanding contributions to their profession or
life's work and/or devoted their time and effort in the greater Seneca
County community improving the quality of life for others; and
WHEREAS, Born in Geneva, New York, on April 21, 1991, to Vincent and
Melanie Scaglione, Matthew V. Scaglione graduated from Mynderse Academy
in 2009; he went on to earn an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice
from Finger Lakes Community College in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Matthew V. Scaglione began working for the Seneca County
Sheriff's Office in February of 2013, and the Village of Waterloo Police
Department in December of the same year; he currently maintains employ-
ment with both agencies; and
WHEREAS, The heroism and leadership displayed by Matthew V. Scaglione
in his short time as a member of the Waterloo Police Department is
unprecedented; he put his own life at risk in saving the life of a small
child he located floating in the Seneca-Cayuga Canal in July of 2014; he
jumped into the canal, recovered the drowning child, and began lifesav-
ing measures; and
WHEREAS, Matthew V. Scaglione has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A valued and involved member of his community, Matthew V.
Scaglione assists with multiple events throughout the Village of Water-
loo such as parades, Memorial Day celebrations, and the Seneca County
Fair; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Matthew V. Scaglione has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Matthew V. Scaglione has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Matthew V. Scaglione upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2014 Rising Star Award by the Seneca County Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Matthew V. Scaglione.
