LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Ralph Scordino upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition for his outstanding leadership
as President of the Suffolk County Village Officials Association
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives and
careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Mayor Ralph
Scordino upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
for his outstanding leadership as President of the Suffolk County
Village Officials Association; and
WHEREAS, For the past 12 years, Ralph Scordino has held the esteemed
title of Mayor of the Village of Babylon, New York, as well as the posi-
tion of both Trustee and Deputy Mayor for 16 years; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure as Mayor, the Village of Babylon has
seen many improvements, including road renovations, updated lights,
improved drainage and fire equipment, and new docks and trails from
Argyle Lake to Southards Pond; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Ralph Scordino was instrumental in the rehabilitation
of the main dock, the Lewis Pond Marina, the Village pool, and the falls
at Argyle; he also helped Babylon become the first municipality in
Suffolk County to offer free Wi-Fi in the business district; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Mayor Ralph Scordino was responsible for the
installation of a new fish ladder at Argyle, which, for the first time
in a century, allowed fish to migrate from fresh water to salt water;
and
WHEREAS, Under his luminous leadership, the Village of Babylon was the
recipient of the 2010 Smart Growth Award by Vision Long Island; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Ralph Scordino worked tirelessly to assist residents
during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving as Mayor of the Village of Babylon,
Ralph Scordino is a member of the Long Island Planning Commission, and
was elected to the position of President of the Suffolk County Village
Officials Association; and
WHEREAS, For 34 years, Mayor Ralph Scordino was employed in the field
of education; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 40 years, Linda,
and their two children, as well as their twin granddaughters, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mayor Ralph Scordino upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition for his outstanding leadership as President of the
Suffolk County Village Officials Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mayor Ralph Scordino
