LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the members of the Bayshore Fire
Department in recognition of their heroic response to the devastation of
Superstorm Sandy, and the substantial role they played in the wake of
its relief efforts

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
caring concern and heroic acts of New York State's bravest who take
immediate and appropriate action in emergency situations; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the members of the Bayshore Fire Department in recognition of their
heroic response to the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, and the substan-
tial role they played in the wake of its relief efforts; and
WHEREAS, Hurricane Sandy, known as Superstorm Sandy, was the deadliest
and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season;
and
WHEREAS, On October 24, 2012, Sandy became a hurricane, made landfall
near Kingston, Jamaica, re-emerged a few hours later into the Caribbean
Sea and strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane; by October 29th, this
storm surge hit New York, bringing hurricane-force winds to the North-
east; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York recognizes the epic devastation that
has been caused by this natural disaster, and the loss of life and
damage that has been sustained by the victims of this tragedy; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Bayshore Fire Department worked tirelessly
to bring the much needed relief to the victims of Superstorm Sandy and
their families; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude to
those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that we should give
special recognition to those who work so assiduously for the betterment
of their communities, and acknowledge publicly the heroic good works
performed by the fire departments of this great Empire State, their
officers and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the members of the Bayshore Fire Department in recognition of
their heroic response to the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, and the
substantial role they played in the wake of its relief efforts; and be
it farther
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Bayshore Fire Department.
